If you’re going to be new to the area, your can rest assured that Stockton-on-Tees has lots to see and do. Starting with the centre, you’ll find all of the high street stores that you’d expect and if you still can’t find what you’re after, Teesside Retail Park is just down the road, near the A66/A19 interchange. It has a vast selection of shops for designer clothing, electronics and housewares. Not in a shopping mood? Teesside Park is also home to a cinema, bowling alley, various restaurants and fast food outlets too.
In terms of open spaces, Stockton-on-Tees has various different parks. Ropner Park is just outside of Hartburn Village and carries a Victorian style, with an ornate bandstand and traditional looking fountains. A bit further along the River Tees, you’ll find Preston Park which has Preston Hall Museum and Butterfly World within its grounds. For adrenaline junkies, the area also has Tees Barrage, which hosts a state of the art white water rafting course.
Stockton’s ARC Theatre & Arts Centre is a multipurpose venue for music, dance, theatre and film, which also has exhibition spaces, bars and a cafe. The newly refurbished Globe Theatre is a grade-II listed building which has played host to the likes of Cliff Richard, The Rolling Stones, and The Beatles.
