Moving is stressful. That’s not exactly a revelation. But, with some planning and a little bit of thinking ahead, you can lessen the chances of having your move turn into a nightmare. So here at Hartgrove Bros, we’ve put together a handy list of our top moving day tips to help.
Moving is a complicated process, you are essentially packing away an entire house and life into boxes. You might also have to work around kids, pets and what you can and can’t pack away until the last minute. Not to mention dealing with removal companies, estate agents and all the memories of the home you’re leaving behind.
All of this stress is why it’s good to write down what you need to do. A list can make sure you don’t overlook anything and you can prioritise jobs in order of importance. Crossing those difficult jobs off your list is also a great motivator and can give you an extra shove for the next job.
If you are spending the day packing and moving, it’s probably not a good idea to start the day with 4 hours of sleep and an empty stomach. Wake up refreshed after an early night and make yourself a hearty breakfast, or go out for one. You’ll thank yourself later in the day.
Getting an early start with a full stomach means you’re going to have the energy for the hours ahead to help you get done as soon as possible.
Moving home can be absolutely exhausting and chances are in the midst of all the packing the fridge and kettle are probably boxed up or at least out of use.
Keep some refreshments handy, bottles of water or other drinks with some snacks for when you and whoever is helping might need them.
The removal company will handle most of the moving process but naturally, there are things you’ll want to do yourself. Things like jewellery, medication, important documents and other personal bits should be set aside to avoid anyone else dealing with them.
To avoid any of your items getting loaded by mistake make people aware or put your items somewhere out the way before the moving starts.
Once everything is out and packed have a walk through the house. Regardless of how careful you think you’ve been, you’ve probably left something behind. It’s worth checking too, once you’re out for good, getting these items back may not be easy.
Get someone else to walk through with you, two sets of eyes are better than one, check drawers, cabinets, cupboards and anywhere else things might have been crammed away like the loft.
Let’s be honest, no amount of planning and preparation will make your moving day go perfectly smooth. Something is always going to crop up, but it’s not the end of the world. Just follow these moving day tips as best you can and things should go okay, hopefully.
When the day is over put your feet up and spend some time relaxing after what was definitely a stressful day. Maybe order some food or just chill out and unwind.
